The Ouroboros: A Symbolic Journey Through Life's Inevitable Changes

The ouroboros - an ancient symbol that speaks to the cyclical nature of existence. The snake consuming its own tail is a timeless metaphor for the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth—a concept that resonates deeply with the essence of our being.

For those unfamiliar with the symbolism of the ouroboros, its significance lies in its reflection of our own inner journey. The ouroboros is often associated with various interpretations, including the concept of infinity, the cyclical nature of time, and the unity of opposites. In many cultures and belief systems, the ouroboros is seen as a representation of the interconnectedness of all things, the continuous flow of life, and the idea that endings are also beginnings in an unending cycle.

The red poppies surrounded by cinnabar moths signify the beginning of the journey through grief—the moments when we are enveloped by waves of heartbreak, yet amidst the pain, find solace in the profound love that sustains us and gently supports us.

The torn sections of skin reveal the raw bones beneath, a testament to the inevitability of loss and the wounds of the soul. A period in time where healing is no longer optional, and the only way out is through.

Once we have reached our place of healing, and settled into our new normal, we move into a season of newness. The emergence of the lotus flower represents rebirth and new beginnings after a season of loss—a reminder that even in our darkest hours, there exists the promise of renewal and growth.

Finally, the sweetness found at the end of the snake’s tail—the honeycomb surrounded by honeybees—symbolizes the lessons learned and the wisdom gained through our experiences of loss. Just as the bees gather nectar from the flowers, so too do we gather wisdom from our journey, using our experiences to soothe the pain of others and bring healing to the world. Our lessons learned, swallowed whole, as we start the cycle again.

The Ouroboros is a direct reflection of the human experience—the moments of pain and suffering that shape our journey through life. It invites us to embrace the cyclical nature of existence, to find solace in the knowledge that even in the face of loss, there exists the promise of renewal and growth. It is hard to ignore the timeless wisdom encoded within the symbol of the ouroboros—a reminder to embrace each moment, to honor the cycles of life, and to find beauty in the ever-changing tapestry of existence.
